Objective
The objective of this project is to build a simple straw rocket to understand the principles of aerodynamics, thrust, and Newton’s Third Law of Motion. Students will learn how the design of a rocket affects its flight and explore the factors that influence the rocket’s trajectory and distance.
Scientific interpretation
In this project, you will learn about the principles of aerodynamics and thrust. When you blow air through the straw, it creates thrust that propels the rocket forward. The shape and design of the rocket, including fins and nose cone, help stabilize its flight and improve its aerodynamics. This demonstrates Newton’s Third Law of Motion: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
