How to Make a Paper Jumping Frog

Objective

To create a paper frog that can jump using basic origami techniques. This project will help students understand potential and kinetic energy through hands-on learning and experimentation.

Scientific interpretation

This project explores the principles of mechanical energy. When you press down on the frog’s back and release, you’re applying force that gets stored as potential energy in the folded paper. Releasing this force quickly converts it into kinetic energy, causing the frog to jump. By adjusting the frog’s body and legs, you can see how changes in the structure affect how far or high the frog jumps, demonstrating basic physics principles like force, energy, and motion.
