Objective
The objective of this project is to create floating paper boats to understand the principles of buoyancy and water displacement. Students will learn how shapes and materials affect an object’s ability to float.
Scientific Interpretation
This project demonstrates the concept of buoyancy, which is the ability of an object to float in water or another fluid. When the paper boat is placed on water, it displaces a certain amount of water based on its weight. If the boat displaces a volume of water equal to its own weight, it will float. This activity also highlights how the shape of the boat affects its stability and buoyancy.
