Flying Balloon Using Straw

Objective

The objective of this project is to build a simple flying balloon using a straw to understand the principles of air pressure, thrust, and Newton’s Third Law of Motion. Students will learn how the release of air from a balloon creates thrust, propelling the balloon forward along a guided path.

Scientific interpretation

This project helps us understand the principles of air pressure and thrust. When we release the air from the balloon, it pushes against the air outside, creating thrust that propels the balloon forward. The straw acts as a guide to keep the balloon moving in a straight line. This demonstrates basic concepts of aerodynamics and Newton’s Third Law of Motion: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
