Simple Parachute

Objective

The objective of this project is to investigate how air resistance and surface area affect falling speed. Students will learn about the forces acting on a parachute and how these forces influence the descent rate of an object.

Scientific Interpretation

In this project, you will learn about air resistance (drag) and how it affects falling objects. When a parachute opens, it increases the surface area and encounters more air resistance, which slows down the fall. By experimenting with different sizes of parachutes, you will see how increased surface area can decrease the falling speed of an object.
